The main purpose for my blog is to create an awareness of how much liberty and freedom we have allowed our government to strip from us. By 2040 we will have a society that most will want to flee rather than be a part of.
A recent article in the "News Observer" in NC, displayed a bigoted Sheriff and what his attitudes are about Latino's. This Sheriff believed that Latino's just work and screw, make babies like rabbits, take jobs away from "Americans", drive drunk (whatever that means today - but I will save that rant for another blog), shoot guns, are dirty, are trashy are illegal, etc. etc. etc.
Keep in mind that a Sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer of his/her respective county. His constituents in like minded Johnston County must share his attitudes to keep such a hateful, despicable person in such an office. Imagine what crimes this person must have committed, during his tenure, using his badge, gun and hateful attitude. He probably is sad that lynchings are not the standard anymore. Ah - but a person in power can easily lynch the spirit instead of the neck and that's what can occur when you give a badge and gun to such a person. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated event, people such as the Sheriff are in all levels of government, law enforcement, schools, etc. A Latino organization called El Pueblo (based in NC) is calling for this bigot's badge - we should all support that call. Law enforcement personnel should be held to the same standards of decency as all of us. In fact, because they have the power to incarcerate they should be held to the most highest standards that we can impose - no exceptions. This man must go and all like him need to be rooted out of law enforcement by resignation or better yet, give them a taste of their own medicine and put them in jail. If we allow our or any person's freedoms in this country to be trampled - then no one will be safe. Justice for one to have justice for all. If apathy continues to prevail, by 2040, you will need permission from law enforcement to wipe your ass (very small but malodorous example).
In small sometimes imperceptible ways our freedoms in this country are getting obliterated. The past eight years most especially. Wake up America - that ideal of a constitution is becoming mythical and is constantly being eroded by a loud crazed few. Our government is supposed to represent us, our beliefs, our thinking, our desire to live freely with liberty and choice - not to impose standards that a few want to impose on us all.

- I am a concerned, somewhat angry 50 year old who is sick and tired of where our society currently is and where it is rapidly descending to. By 2040, I will probably be dead and gone, but my children and grand children will have to live in what I fear will be an unlivable hell - lest we stop the insanity now. OUR APATHY BECOMES THE TOOL USED TO ENSLAVE US.

i completely agree. as an elected official, who's salary is paid by tax dollars (even of undocumented immigrants who pay county, state & federal taxes), he is no position to make such statements; he should speak for ALL people, not just those who share his shade of melanin or lack thereof. he is elected to serve, defend & protect all citizens of his county, regardless of their documented status, resident, naturalized or birth status.
have we forgotten that such bias & subjective points of view is what held this nation in a civil war thinking it was ok to enslave our african-american brothers & sisters; to think that women were 2nd class citizens as well without the right to vote. to think that this still goes on in such a day & age as this, with so much technology & media making information readily available is unbelievable. we claim to be so open as "americans". we, as u.s. born are not the only americans on this hemisphere. we are merely the united states of america - north, central & south america, which by the way, mexico is as much a part of north america as canada & the u.s. are.
